Coffee with Jesus is a quirky four panel cartoon strip that uses simple clip art images to illustrate Jesus talking about modern day issues and current events with everyday people. Each strip shows one of a small cast of characters having a casual conversation with Jesus over coffee.
It's amazing how much the folks at Radio Free Babylon (whoever they are) are able to accomplish with such a limited palette. The simple repetition of images pushes all the attention to the dialog which is consistently clever and sardonic. Like most humor, it's not for everyone. But as far as I'm concerned, it's simply brilliant.

Yes, yes, and yes!! I have been following CFJ for some time now, and sometimes even more entertaining - and profound - are the comments people make when the author strikes a nerve. Brilliant, indeed!
ReplyDeleteWhich coffee shop is Jesus at? I wanna go, but do you think I could substitute tea for coffee? This is great and thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThose remind me of this "Modern Christian" vs. Jesus video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mLOUWl-L-s
ReplyDeleteLike these strips, I think it works because (if you didn't know the source) you could see it coming from a perspective somewhere in between the two polar arguments.
The CWJ strip seem a lot more winsome and helpful. While CWJ lampoons "Christians," the NonStampCollector stuff lampoons Christianity, Jesus, and Scripture. The CWJ stuff tries to subvert silly "christianity" and the NSC stuff tries to make christianity look silly.
