Tuesday Tome - Following Jesus

I'm currently re-reading Following Jesus: Biblical Reflections on Discipleship by N. T. Wright. It's a wonderful little book of pastoral instruction. Wright is one of those rare academics who is also a gifted pastoral teacher. He is able to take big ideas and challenging texts and serve up something rich and helpful for everyone.

I'm using the first six chapters as the inspiration for my current teaching series at Valley Christian Church. The series is called Looking to Jesus. Each week, with Wright's help, I look at a different New Testament book and try to spotlight the general portrait of Jesus given by that particular book.
The Final Sacrifice: Hebrews
The Battle Won: Colossians
The Kingdom of the Son of Man: Matthew
The Glory of God: John
The Servant King: Mark
The World Reborn: Revelation
The book is only 115 pages long and easy to read. If you're looking for something to encourage you in  following Jesus, I think you'll find this to be a worthwhile book. Reading one chapter a day for a couple weeks would be a good way to take it in.
